| VALUES EDUCATION PARADE - 2/12/05 Last Friday at Rochedale State School saw the successful launch of the school’s values. Rochedale State School in partnership with their school community have identified six core values. These values are respect, responsibility, consideration, cooperation, fairness and honesty. The values education program is an Australian Government funded national initiative. The Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) is overseeing the management of the program nationally. Each state/territory is being funded to support schools to conduct forums to develop their own approaches to values in education in partnership with their local community. The Rochedale launch took place at a special assembly where parents, teachers, invited guests including Mr Phil Reeves (State Member) and Ms Rosalie Shawcross (Senior Project Officer – Values Education) and children witnessed the unveiling of these values and the displaying of these values on three metre banners. These banners are part of the beginning phase of our journey along the pathway of values education at Rochedale State School. The banners will inspire students at Rochedale State School to reflect on these values and then incorporate them into their daily lives. Ms Rosalie Shawcross said that “Rochedale State School was one of only three schools that had completed their forum on Values Education.” Ms Shawcross was impressed with the professionalism and enthusiasm in which Rochedale State School was initiating the Values Education Program within the school. The launch concluded with a morning tea for members of the Parent Forum which was hosted by the School Values Committee.
