YEAR 7:

There are three Year 7 classes  and a 6/7 composite class in 2008. Our teachers are Ms Katie Loveday, Mr Tony Sanderson, Mr Nick Belous (6/7) and Mrs Judy Barnes.  You can write to us at:
Year 7B (Mrs Judy Barnes)
Year 6/7B (Mr Nick Belous)
Year 7L (Ms Katie Loveday)
Year 7S (Mr Tony Sanderson)

Here's some of our work:

In 2008, Year 6/7B wrote some wonderful descriptions of our Deputy Principal, Mr Clint Burton. In 2003, Mr Belous's Year 7 class also wrote descriptions of Mr Burton and you can read them in the link at the bottom of this page!

See if Mr Burton has changed much in 5 years!! Click the photo for our writing.
In 2005, Year 7L  made some wonderful models of environmentally friendly houses which include features like:
  • louvres for air circulation

  • fans - circulation

  • AAA taps top save water

  • whirly birds to get the hot air out of the attic

  • insulation to keep the house cool

  • bins - recycle, scraps, human waste

  • water tanks to conserve water

  • solar panels to save money and collect electricity

YEAR 7 VISIT TO THE QUEENSLAND POLICE MUSEUM, 2005
During May, the children from Year Seven visited the Queensland Police Museum which is situated in the Roma Street Headquarters of the Queensland Police Force. Luckily, no one was arrested although the sleuths from the Year Seven classes were given the task of examining a mock crime scene. This involved searching for forensic clues which would lead them to understand how the crime was committed. Like a team from CSI they took to the task and were able to demonstrate their investigative skills. As well as participating in that activity, they were able to view weapons which had been made by criminals from seemingly harmless household implements. A variety of hidden weapons – such as knives contained in belt buckles – also caught their imagination. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the displays which included historical information as well as details of how some major murder mysteries were solved. All in all, it was an interesting and educational experience which complemented our work on forensic science.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE VISIT
The month of June saw the Year Seven classes make a visit to Parliament House. As well as being greeted by Local Member, Mr Phil Reeves, the students were treated to Morning Tea at the Parliamentary Annexed.
Following this, the history of the actual Parliament House was explained before they entered the building.

TOOHEY FOREST ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE
Nestled in the ground of Griffith University is the Toohey Forest Environmental centre which the Grade Seven classes visited in July. It was an interesting day when we learned about how it is possible to build houses that are more environmentally friendly and recyclable even! Group activities horrified us when we learned that most of us use so many resources there would have to be 10 or even 20 worlds to support our lifestyle and use, or abuse, of the environment. A really enjoyable task was to use solar energy to help run some amazing constructions such as racecars, Ferris wheels and merry-go-rounds. Even though it was a fun activity-filled day, we all learned about how we can better use and care for our natural environment. Click here for some photos.
In term 4, 2001, many Year Six and Seven students at Rochedale State School study multiculturalism. As part of this unit, Professor John Tyman from Cultures in context visited the school. This year, he spoke about the Maasai people of Kenya in Africa. Thanks to Professor Tyman the children learned a great deal about the Maasai culture and are now ready to look for themselves at other cultures, with a much more open mind. Here's some photos of our talk. In 2001, Year 6/7K took part in the B105 Scavenger Hunt to try and win some money for the school. Although they managed to find all 19 items, with over 100 other lucky contestants to compete with, they didn't en up winning. Still they had a great trip into the city for the draw.

Here's their pictures!

In 1999, Mr Belous' class has been learning all about Greek myths and some of the children have produced beautifully presented work. Here's Kirsty's Greek myth about Eros and Psyche along with her illustrations. We wish we could show you her book but that's not possible but she did get 29 ½ out of 30 for her work!! Click on the picture of Zeus to read Kirsty's myth.

Each year, the Year 7 students write descriptive paragraphs about people in our school. In 1999, Year 7s wrote about our Deputy Principal, Mr Burton, while Year 7 wrote about our Principal, Mr Gordon!!  Click on the pictures to read the Year 7's sometimes too honest descriptions.
Year 7 have been writing some descriptions of the lives of some interesting objects in 1998. They have certainly put themselves into the lives of their subjects as you'll see when you read their descriptions. Click on the eggs to go to their page. Our Language Program consists of learning to write and recognise many different types of written work. These different types are known as "Genres" and we'd like to present some of our work in these genres for you. Click on the book to read our examples.
Year 7 students each year select a member of staff to practise their "Descriptive Genre" on. Click on the picture of 1997's "lucky" recipient to read our students' fine efforts.
