YEAR 6:

There are four Year 6 classes and a 6/7 Composite class in 2008. Our teachers are Mrs Jan Levitt, Mrs Lisa Webster, Mr Nick Belous (6/7),  Mr David Whalley and Mr Callum Cox. You can write to us at:
Year 6A (Mrs Lisa Webster)
Year 6/7B (Mr Nick Belous)
Year 6C (Mr Callum Cox)
Year 6L (Mrs Jan Levitt)
Year 6W (Mr David Whalley)

Here's some of our work:

In 2006, Year 6 once again held their Medieval Day, which was greatly enjoyed by the children, parents and teachers. Here's some photos of their day. Miss Rea, one of the Year 6 teachers, was lucky enough to win a scholarship to China for 17 days, through Access Asia. Sixteen teachers were selected from all over Australia to participate in this amazing journey. Click the photo for her report and pictures.
Year 6C and 6L spent a day learning how to survive in the bush at an excursion run by teachers from Berrinbah East State School. The children had a great day as you can see from the pictures. Click here for their pictures. On Wednesday 9th March, 2005, the children of two Year 6 classes went on an excursion to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Here's some photos of their excursion as well as a report by one of the students. Click the lorikeet for the photos and report.
In term 4, 2003, many Year Six and Seven students at Rochedale State School study multiculturalism. As part of this unit, Professor John Tyman from Cultures in context visited the school. This year, he spoke about the Maasai people of Kenya in Africa. Thanks to Professor Tyman the children learned a great deal about the Maasai culture and are now ready to look for themselves at
other cultures, with a much more open mind. Here's some photos of our talk.
On Thursday, 15 May, 2003, our Year 6 classes held a special day of medieval activities to finalise their unit of work. Congratulations to students, parents and teachers for making this day a great success. Parents and students went to a lot of trouble to wear appropriate costumes. A great day was had by all. Click on the picture for a look.

This year the Year 6 students held their annual Medieval Day on Wednesday, 8 May, 2002. Once again they had a great time, with medieval games, a banquet, medieval school work and dancing. Click on the picture for a look.

Year 6 students held their annual Medieval Day again on Wednesday, 15 May, 2001. They had a great time, with medieval games, a banquet and dancing. Click on the picture for a look. Year 6/7 took part in the B105 Scavenger Hunt in 2001, to try and win some money for the school. Although they managed to find all 19 items, with over 100 other lucky contestants to compete with, they didn't en up winning. Still they had a great trip into the city for the draw. Here's their pictures!
Ms Cavallaro's Year 6 had a great trip to Underwater World as the conclusion to their Marine Studies Theme. Click on the picture to see their trip report and photos. Ms Keiler's year 6 and 7 students have been learning how to produce brochures using Microsoft Publisher. They've done a terrific job of them so here's a couple turned into web pages. Click on the picture to have a look.
Year 5/6 children have been learning about Mt Vesuvius as one of their themes for Term 4.
They had a wonderful time doing writing activities, making volcanos and dressing up for a real Roman feast. Click on the picture to see their work and pictures.
In 2000, the year six and seven children had the privilege of attending a presentation by Professor John Tyman, from Cultures in Context.
His presentation this year was about the Sawos people of Torembi in the Sepik River area of New Guinea. Click on the picture to read all about it.
Year 6 students enjoyed learning about Medieval times in Term 2, 2000 and to complete the unit, they had an exciting Medieval Day with the kids all dressing up beautifully in medieval costume and taking part in activities, a luncheon and games for the day. Click on the photo to have a look at their great day. Year 6 students entered the Rochedale Challenge, a competition between local schools involving thinking skills, cooperation and many other areas.  Team 4 from Rochedale were the winners this year. Click on the photo of the winning team for the report.
in 1999, Year 6 had a visit from Dr Tyman who talked to the children about life in a Maasai village in Africa. The children enjoyed seeing all the colourful Maasai artefacts, games, clothes and weapons.  Click on the picture to have a look at our pictures and read about the Maasai people.   As part of our Social Studies in Year 6, we study life in Medieval Times. To get right in the swing of things, we have some Medieval visitors come to the school each year. We have heaps of activities and a great Medieval Feast for lunch. Click on the picture to have a look at this years photos. If you'd like to read out information on Medieval times have a look below.
Year 6 completed some great projects on Antarctica. They certainly learnt a lot about this cold continent in their research.

In 1998, we had some Medieval visitors come to the school to tell us all about Medieval times. We had a great day, with activities, games and a Medieval feast at lunch time. Most of the children came dressed up in Medieval costume too and looked terrific. Click on the shield to read all the information we learnt that Mrs Levitt kindly typed up for us; and also have a look at our great photos that we took on the day.
Year 6 also had a visitor from NASA come to the school to tell us all about Space and Space Shuttles. We spent a very enjoyable and informative hour listening to his talk. Click on the shuttle to read all the information we learnt that Mrs Levitt also kindly typed up for us.
