Mrs Ireland and Ms
Millard's classes have just completed a terrific unit on Mini Creatures.
They learnt a lot about our insect friends during this unit.

Year 2 are investigating "How the World Works" with a central idea of "Scientists change materials for a purpose." Their lines of enquiry are the role of a scientist and properties of materials determine how they are used. They are exploring physical and chemical reactions.

Mrs Conroy's and Ms Duncanson's class celebrated Shrove Tuesday or
Pancake Tuesday as it is also known, by making pancakes and selling them to
the rest of the school. They were yummy!! Here's some photos of them as well
as the French classes' masks that they made for Shrove Tuesday.

Mrs Conroy's and Mrs Tutin's class did some cooking in the 3rd week of
Term 1, using our brand new stove in our staffroom. Here's some pictures of
our expert chefs and the delicious sweets they made.

Here's some of the exciting things that are going on in 2. First of all we
had our Pirate Day on Wednesday, 1 May, 2002 as we are studying Under the
Sea this term. We had a wonderful day that was made up of making a pirate
mask, treasure hunts and designing a treasure map! Here's our photo: |

Secondly, our class is emailing
another Grade 2 class in the USA called Echo Elementary. Our student paired
up and students email their buddies frequently which they enjoy immensely.
It helps them with the letter writing genre and uses technology in the
classroom such as then computer and email program. The students also enjoy
learning about the differences and similarities between Australia and the
USA. |

2 had their Pirate Dress Up Day as the conclusion to their Sea Theme this

On Wednesday, 8
May, 2002, the Year 2 classes from Rochedale State School visited the
Queensland Museum at South Bank. The children saw many
interesting things and learnt a lot from their excursion. Click on the photo
