FRENCH PAGE 2009

In 2009, our French students, under the guidance of Mme Sandra Pearson, took part in a lot of interesting activities including making Mardi Gras masks and singing at our Christmas Carols. Below are some photos and information.

MARDI GRAS

In France, the day before the beginning of Lent is called MARDI-GRAS. In the Christian calendar it is called Shrove Tuesday. The name MARDI-GRAS takes its name from the French word ˇ§mardiˇ¨ meaning Tuesday, and ˇ§grasˇ¨ meaning ˇ§fatˇ¨.  In France the day is celebrated by making and eating crepes (thin pancakes) and making masks to parade in the street celebrations.  In these pictures you can see some of the students at Rochedale State School making their masks in preparation for the Mardi-Gras Parade.

MARDI GRAS PARADE

At Parade, Grade 7 French students explained  the history and significance of the traditions of the annual French festival of MARDI-GRAS. A huge parade of masks followed, culminating in a dance performance by Jessica and Annabel.

FRENCH PUPPET PRODUCTION

Students enjoyed a closer look at the puppets used in the French puppet production "Sindbad et Le Cheval Enchante" which the school hosted in August this year.

ASTERIX MOVIE

Students head for a city cinema  to see "Asterix aux Jeux Olympiques" screened as part of the 2009 French Film Festival

CHRISTMAS CAROLS

Students sing and act out a French Christmas carol, "Petit Papa Noel",  at the Rochedale Carols Night on December 3, 2009.
