In 2009, our French students, under
the guidance of Mme Sandra Pearson, took part in a lot of
interesting activities including making Mardi Gras masks and
singing at our Christmas Carols. Below are some photos and
information. |

MARDI GRAS |
|
In France, the
day before the beginning of Lent is called MARDI-GRAS. In the
Christian calendar it is called Shrove Tuesday. The name
MARDI-GRAS takes its name from the French word ˇ§mardiˇ¨ meaning
Tuesday, and ˇ§grasˇ¨ meaning ˇ§fatˇ¨. In France the day is
celebrated by making and eating crepes (thin pancakes) and
making masks to parade in the street celebrations. In
these pictures you can see some of the students at Rochedale
State School making their masks in preparation for the
Mardi-Gras Parade. |
