Australian Animals


Year 5B children at Rochedale State School completed their Projects on Australian Animals. Year 5P have added some new animals this year as well. Here's their information on our unique wildlife.

The PLATYPUS is one of the most unique animals in the world. It is a "monotreme", a rare egg-laying mammal.

The ECHIDNA or SPINEY ANTEATER is also an egg-laying mammal and a very prickly character as you will see.

The BILBY is Australia's Easter Bunny and an endangeredspecies which lives in our desert areas.

The EMU is a large flightless bird that lives only in Australia. It is related to the ostrich and cassowary.

The KOALA is Australia's cutest and most well known marsupial.

The GREEN TREE FROG is one of Australia's best known amphibians.

The TASMANIAN DEVIL is a marsupial found only in Tasmania.

The TAIPAN is the most venomous snake in Australia and is very aggressive when cornered.

The BLACK SWAN is West Australia's famous bird, the only swan native to Australia.

The DINGO is Australia's native dog but they are not found in Tasmania.

The BUDGERIGAR is found in large flocks in the central part of Australia.

The FEATHER TAIL GLIDER is a tiny possum with a feather-like tail.

The KANGAROO is possibly the most famous of our Australian animals . The WOMBAT is a marsupial that is becoming extinct in some areas.

The KOOKABURRA is the famous laughing bird of Australia.
