On Thursday, 30 July, Year 5g and 5p went on their annual excursion to the Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens and the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. The children had a great time exploring the Gardens and learning about the Planets at the Planetarium.

Our bus had seat belts so we were all safely belted in.

After a short bus ride, we arrived at the Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens

There was another school visiting the Gardens and they had lunch at the Sun Dial.

The cafe has been renovated since our last visit and looks very nice now.
Soon we arrived at the lagoon to have our morning tea and do a page in our booklets, The duck didn't take too much notice of the Bearded Dragon sitting on the path.

Here's another one, there seem to be a lot of these lizards in the Gardens now.

The ducks liked the children feeding them and were quite tame.
We had Morning Tea beside the lagoon..

and the ibis enjoyed lunch too!!

Don't we look cool in our sunnies ....

...... the eel thought so too!!!

Next we went to the Herb and Fragrant Garden to smell some plants.

Wonder what sort that one is??

After that we went to the Arid Zone. We left our school bags next to the big dome.
A quick trip to the toilets ..... ...... and off on the Arid Zone Trail

Wonder what sort of cactus that is??

The plants in here were very green and lush.

The children had fun trying to find all the different plants.

Next stop was the Tropical Dome.

This plant was as big as the child under it!! Up to the top of the dome which was very hot and steamy.
The lily pads covered the top of the pond inside the dome.

Now where is that plant???

I think I found one down here!!

Soon it was time for the show in the Planetarium.
Night time sessions are held in this part. After a short wait, it was time to go inside.

The displays in the foyer held the children's attention.

This meteorite was particularly interesting!!
The children studied the pictures around the walls. After the talk on the planets, it was time for lunch.

We went to the Japanese Gardens and found a cool spot for lunch.

The Bearded Dragons were there too, can you see one in this picture??

This pretty waterfall looked lovely.

We enjoyed going over the stepping stones.

This pond was full of large goldfish.

Time for a play before going back.

Lucky we found this nice open area where we could let off some energy!!

Are we all here, hop in line for the bus back!!
