In October, 1999, Rochedale State School received an email from Oceanfriends, asking if we would like a visit from Jim Sullivan from America, who is sailing around the world, visiting children in schools and hospitals.

Of course we were keen to meet this brave sailor, so when Jim finally arrived in early November, we invited him to come and talk to our classes.

"This is not about a nautical feat or braving the odds of the Pacific Ocean. This is all about helping others by sharing the stories of our oceanfriends, so that we will inspire others to overcome any adversity."
Jim Sullivan

Oceanfriends hopes to make a difference by sharing stories about the ocean friends they meet and their love of God and sailing and overcoming adversity, with other organizations, hospitals, and schools.

Jim came to Year 5G on Tuesday, 16 November. The kids were keen to help him put  the screen up.

Then the projector was set up for the slide show. Jim had some great slides of his trip across the Pacific.

The children all listened intently to Jim's stories about his dog, Captain Melody, nicknamed "Pookie Bear".

One lucky student was chosen to be the projector helper. He did a fine job!!

This is Jim's boat on the screen. D.B made shadow figures just as good as Jim's!!
All the class posed for this photo outside our building. The kids certainly learnt a lot from Jim's inspirational talk.
Jim will be in Brisbane until April next year. We wish him all the best for the rest of his trip!!
