FROM THE PRINCIPAL
“Forgive and ye shall be forgiven.”   Luke 6:37

**********************

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

**********************

In a few weeks time some 100,000 electors go to the poll to elect a new mayor of Logan City. While our school is in Brisbane City it follows that many parents live in Logan City as the border between the two runs across busy Priestdale Road. The mid-term resignation of Mayor Freeman has prompted this by-election. Public office at the local level is robust and up front. It is far removed from the ethereal realms of the Australian Senate, for example. Local Councillors are woken up at night by irate residents complaining about everything from busted water mains to hooning teenagers. They cop complaints about graffiti spraying vandals and Library opening hours. So why do they do it? I like to think they see their role as a civic duty. They throw their hat in the ring and are hired and fired on the whim of public opinion. The field of candidates suggest that civic spirit is alive and well in our neighbouring city. Whoever wins will have big shoes to fill steering one of the fastest growing regions in Australia towards a brighter future.

Deputy Principal
They say that a day in politics is a long time, I think that at times this does not compare to a day in a school!  As many parents may have noted, our second Deputy Principal, Mrs Lesley Vogan has been absent and Mrs Leigh Francis has been acting in the role.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mr Midgley, the Principal of Springwood Road State School has had to leave suddenly.  Ms Vogan was approached to act as Principal at Springwood Road until the end of Term 3.  This loss for Rochedale has a silver lining- it allows Mrs Francis the opportunity to act as Deputy Principal throughout this time.  I would like to congratulate both Mrs Vogan and Mrs Francis and I look forward to working with both capable administrators over the coming months.

Active Australians
It was with great pleasure that I attended the Year 5/6 sports day held last Friday at Rochedale State High School.  The day saw students in Years 5 and 6 from Rochedale State School, Rochedale South State School and Eight Mile Plains State School travel to Rochedale SHS for a day of sport.  The local sporting clubs generously donated their time and equipment to coach children in a multitude of sporting activities.  The day, sponsored by Active Australia aimed to expose our students to the joy of physical activity and the services offered by our local clubs.  I would encourage children and parents to explore membership of a sporting club now and into the future.  Many thanks to David McDonald (Principal) and all the staff and students of Rochedale State High School for their organisation and support.
