Rochedale State School was privileged to be the first Queensland school to have a visit from well-known cartoonist,
Jeff Taylor (Joffa) who taught the
children all about cartoon drawing. Joffa does cartoons for magazine like Woman's Day and takes his "Toonschool" to schools, ususally in NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
Amongst much hilarity, the children learnt a lot and produced some great cartoons, some of which we have included below. |

| Year 5g eagerly welcomed Joffa to our class room. | Joffa asked the children a couple of questions to see how well they were listening. |

| Then he demonstrated that the easiest thing is the drawing. | The hardest thing is getting the ideas for cartoons. These kids seem to have plenty of them though! |

| Joffa told the children that cartoons were drawn from things that we already knew about. | The theme for the cartoons was a Day at the Races, with the children drawing a mother, daughter and dad the jpckey!! |

| The children quickly caught on to the idea of drawing circles and triangles to make the basic shapes for the cartoon figures. | Soon everyone had a mother and daughter drawn with varying degrees of expertise. |

| The kids really got into it and did some great cartoons. | Wish they were this engrossed with Maths!! |

| Next they added some perspective to their mother and daughter drawings. | And then onto drawing dad, the jockey, who was standing on the race track. |

| Finally it was autograph time and the children all lined up for theirs. | Joffa happily obliged, signing autographs for nearly the whole class!! |
Here's some scans of the children's cartoons. I think they are great and so do the kids. |
