Education week

Education week was held in Queensland schools from 17 May to 22 May, 1999. At Rochedale State School, we celebrated Education Week with many activities involving both students and parents. Every day of the week saw different, exciting activities of some kind for the various year levels.

THURSDAY
On Thursday, 20 May, the Year 6 classes had a Medieval Day with many of the children (and teachers) getting into the swing of things and wearing costumes. They even had a Medieval feast at lunch time!


Lord Blair began the day by introducing himself and other members of the Knights Guild of Wessex and Mercia.	They had an array of medieval costumes for the children to look at and try on.

The Guild members came dressed in medieval costume.	A knight had to show his strength by holding the heavy knight's sword.

One of the girls had a go at holding it at arm's length too. They didn't last very long!!	The children in Year 6 also came in some amazing medieval gear.

These boys tried on some medieval chain mail.	After finally being fully rigged out, they were amazed at the great weight

Dance was one form of relaxation for people in medieval times. These Year 6 boys certainly enjoyed learning this medieval dance!	Heraldry proved an interesting and informative topic. Children had the opportunity to make their own medieval shield.

Lord Blair instructs these girls (both from Yr 6) in the lifestyle of a medieval village.	The medieval banquet banquet was enjoyed by all. They managed to consume 20 chickens, 13 loaves of bread, 4kg of cheese and various other foodstuffs!!
