Jaiden Johnstone

2007

WOW! The school is looking awesome now looking from google maps! I have now only three weeks till I graduate from High School and I still remember the 2007 graduation. Had a walk through the new office you have on the old oval and I must say it's quite outstanding compared to the old one at the front of the school. What is the old office being used for now? I still remember the school swimming carnival at the end of each year, good old times. Since then, I've made it three times into the national championships and was half a second out from Olympic Trials but now, I've hanged the goggles up and enjoying the last few weeks I have left now in High School. It would be great to see what the school looks like now as an overall and I would love to just come back and enjoy what it's like to be in primary school again. Does the school still do the year 6 medieval day? I remember I was asked to get married to the kings daughter that day - most awkward moment I've experienced . Does M r Smith and Mr Burton still work there. Yes Jaiden, Mr Smith and Mr Burton are still with us!!

Hi Carmel - Our School Captains now wear that uniform on special occasions and on parade etc. Looks great doesn't it?
Hey Guys! (and girls if you're picky). I'm loving Redeemer but still missing Rochedale. I still hear stories of when they called the school captain after me Carmel on the first assembly. It's cute. I see the pics of all the kids there now and remember how they used to be snotty little kids. Far out, I'm 15 and I'm making myself sound old. But it's true. What's with the jackets? have you changed the uniform? Missing you heaps. Carmel

2004

I came to rochdale state at the beginning of year seven and in that year i found that their was no bullying (very very little) i also made really nice friends, the school is great, the only thing i didn't like was that they are not into performing arts, there is no interest in the kids that are talented in that field which is a shame, BUT if you are academic or sporty then they will like you. Even though the school doesn't like performing arts they are a great school and the teachers are good and the kids are good too.

Well, I certainly enjoyed my time at Rochedale. Now that I go to Brisbane State High, things are now completely different. I hope the students in Yr 7 now have a good time, just like I did. Rochedale had a really friendly environment, and it always will. Good luck to all the teachers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. Thanks Mr. Belous and Mrs. Levitt for being such great teachers and teaching me soooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, can I just say good-luck to all the student this year. Rochedale would have to be the best school, so, remember it always, I know I do. even if you don't like the teachers (how could you not!) they are getting you ready for future life. When I came to Mansfield High, after Rochedale, I notice that many people know that Rochedale is a good school (because we're smart and just so cute). HAVE FUN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS HI MR BELOUS...

I went to the 75th Anniversay on sunday to do a news report. It was then i realised how lucky I was to come to the school and how much i really enjoyed being at the school. The staff are all incredible and I love the feeling there. it is a GREAT school and like Mr. Nielson (ex principal) said on sunday "some schools people can't wait to get out of. Here you can't get enough". I would gladly send my own children there. Loved my Primary school days!

Good old Rochedale State School, what can I say? It ruled, even though I had minimal friends, and everyone tried to beat me up, I still enjoyed it. And anyone who is reading this who did try to beat me up, try it now, I'm a tank, 100% pure muscle. Mr Sanderson and Mrs Chippendale are the kewlest teachers ever! And thank you Rochedale.

1997

Well. What can I say. Thank you Rochedale. From the first day of grade 1 to the moment I stepped through the gates of the school on the last day of grade 7, it was always great to know that every day, I would be attending a wonderful school, a safe and friendly school, a school that was always improving educational wise, and a school whose staff were always kind and always eager to a lend a hand to further increase the level of teachings... Rochedale State School. Thanks to my grade 7 teacher, Mr Nick Belous. You prepared me so well for high school. Thank you and well done to my grade 5 teacher, Mrs Glenda Crew. You have always been a favourite, and the knowledge and skills you have in order to create and sustain a website such as this are extraordinary. It is always great to know, that Rochedale is one of, if not the most technologically advanced schools in your area. Hello to all my friends from primary school. I am still in touch with many of you, and I hope you're all having fun, whatever school you are now attending. Thank you and well done, Rochedale.

Hi, it's the horror student, Ruth, come back to haunt my favourite primary school. I personally have never seen the new webpage and I think it's fantastic! I would really like to be able to contact some of my former teachers through this page, please. (Mr Belous, Mrs Tracy, Mr Leung, Mrs Spranklin, Mr Wills and Mrs Clarkson). If this is possible I'd really appreciate it. Rochedale, continue to always give your best.
Heidi Schlencker

1996

You may remember that name, Schlencker if you were around in the early-mid '90's. I left in grade 6 to move with my Mother and sister, Lauren, to Nambucca Heads. I'm now in Byron Bay finishing year 12.  My memories of grade 1-6 at Rochedale State School aren't so clear, but I do remember that we were given great opportunities creatively and academically.
kimberlee godwin

1996

I have so many memories of rochedale. from getting into trouble for writing Ruth a mean letter, to districts of softball and the mad teachers! this register has brought back memories. To be honest Ruth Hosking set them off. i remember when she dobbed on me . i had to go to the principle. All because i organised all my friends to write to her on how much we hated her. Sorry about that Ruth. i will always remember how the teachers always motivated healthy lifestyles by us running around the oval....many times!
Ebony Georgiou

1996

Hey! I'm sure Mr Belous and Mr Wills will remember me very well! Mr Belous, I am doing very well in Science and in my other subjects. I've entered a competition for a short story in English and I'm very confident I will be placed in a good position!  Mr Wills, I am going well in the sports area of my life, and I'm also the manager of the Yr8 and 9 Basketball Boys team! It' very cool.  I would appreciate it if both Mr Belous and Mr Wills replied please. Thank you

Wow RSS seems like forever ago! My husband and I walked through the grounds not long ago, and it's changed so much! I remember some great times... kissing behind the dental clinic... and detention against the office wall.. haha. Of course my two favourite teachers, Mr Sanderson and Mrs Glover. Now I'm a stay at home mum of two children and still singing.

Wow, what fantastic memories i have! I can remember it all like it was yesterday. Krsytal, Kirstin, Elizabeth, Natalie, Gemma, Jodie - the best mates I've ever had! Unfortuneately I left Rochedale when I was in year 5 (1992). I am now a teacher myself at a school just outside of Beenleigh. I teach year 1. I laugh when i think about what i would have been like in year one! I would love to chat to anyone who i went to school with, or who taught me. Rumour has it, there are many teachers still there.

Hi,I have just spent 15 mins looking around your website and i think its great. When i went to school there we used to have to carry about 5 computers around to different classes for other students to use, and now you have your own website, how things change. It brought back many memories,i liked the picture of the old parade ground a place i stood and listened for 6 yrs. In grade 1 we stood under our building for parade and looked at all the big kids in front of us. Great memories thanks, Gary Cox
Matthew Hilan

1987

Boy, it's a been a while now, but the memories remain. The school used to seem massive, now so tiny. I don't think any of my teachers are still there (Mr Leung perhaps the last). This register is such a great concept. Perhaps we can try for a reunion at some time! It would be exciting to see what all my fellow 1987 'graduands' have been up to.

Rochedale State School is a wonderful school. It has not changed since I was here as a student. I am back again, this time as a teacher! It's scary working in a classroom that I was once taught in!

Thanks for this site. It would be nice to see some named pictures of teachers. For instance, is that Mr.Waldron in the 75th reunion album? I had him in grade 7. Other memories include playing cricket on the far side of the oval and being afraid of the plovers that would swoop us when we had to get the ball from the other side of the fence.
Janice Mastin

1986

My years at RSS were definitely some of my favourite. A brilliant school with fantastic teachers. I particularly remember Mrs Lorriane Kennedy, Mrs Wriggley, Mr Young, and Mr Waldron. Such a great influence were all of you, that I am currently training to be a primary teacher in Edinburgh, Scotland. Love to hear from anyone I knew. mastinjanice@yahoo.co.uk

I was enrolled as a student from 1980 - 1986. It has been well over a decade since I was in Rochedale. I now live in New Zealand and work in Film and Video Production. I recognised some names on the former students list including Debbie Aitken and Cassie Whatmore which brought back a few fond childhood memories. I enjoyed my time as a student and wonder what the school is like now.

I started my schooling life at Rochedale State School but left in grade 3 when my family moved to Melbourne. I changed primary schools another 2 times and went to four different high schools but I still believe the best school I ever attended was Rochedale. I'm still living in Melbourne but plan to move back to Brisbane in the coming years. I still remember Mrs Kopp telling me
that she didn't like Duran Duran (it was the 80's obviously!!)
Bradley Waldron

Rochedale State School rocks!! It gave me the necessary start to life that I need to maintain my prowess in the high pressure business world. I have been past a few times and I can tell you it always brings back special memories, like my first kiss under the monkey bars.  It's a great place for an education, I will send my kids there.

Particular mention goes to Mr. Waldron, Mr. Belous, Mr. Cook, Mr. Barry and Mrs Kerr. A dedicated group of people. Very fond memories of my time at Rochedale State School. I am still friends with people i met here. I used to walk to school with my mates before we were allowed to ride. I remember playing house under the big pine trees at lunch time and getting really dirty feet because my mum made me wear sandles. A few times we were sent home because the school had no water supply and it was the middle of summer. The Fete's were great. My best
teacher was Mr Barry in grade 5, he used to play the guitar and sing for us, he also played 'War of the Worlds' on cassette which was really interesting.

I currently live in France, but I still have fond memories of my primary school, the fantastic sporting facilities, and having a lot of fun. 1982

Writing this in 2010.. and looking at the aerial photos of the school, it hasn't changed much. I can still remember sitting on the dots on the bitumen assembly area and having stand up to sing along with the school band (Mostly drums and recorders) to 'God Save The Queen' whilst the Australian flag was raised. How I wanted to be a flag raiser! I was very familiar with waiting outside the office to get the 'Cuts' from Mr. Murray the Principal. I can still taste the disinfectant fluid used on the recorders and remember the walk across the oval to the Film/Music Room - it was behind this building that most fights were staged and the nearby long jump pit was used for the Yo-Yo long distance jumping challenges. The Guy Fawkes fireworks nights were also awesome - although I was scared of the noise! I can remember the offical opening of the pool by Shane Gould and the freezing cold pre-swim shower and the smell of talcum powder in the bathing caps - no cap.. no swim. This school was fantastic and still seems to be.

It's hard to believe it's been 12 years since we all played on the coppers log fort and wood pyramid in the old adventure playground, got sap on our blue shirts and faded grey shorts from the many pine trees around the demountables. We watched large wasps "dance" through the air above our heads as we were supposed to be watching the blackboard in those louvered demountable classrooms (that we never moved). The stench in the air as the fondly named "poo truck" made its regular visit emptying the septic tanks between the then "new library and covered area" and the demountables/ pine forest area)

My time at Rochedale State School was the best years of my life. I meet so many people and remember a lot of them. I have two children that now attend Rochedale and it is really good to see how many faces you remember from when I was a pupil at the school. It is also good to see that there are a few teachers that are still at the school from when I was there, or come back to one of the best schools in the area. Keep up the good work Rochedale!!

How amazing was the school! Mr Murray and the fantastic teachers, what a buzz life was back then, which kids today could only dream of. No shoes and stubbies shorts! Great to see photos of the school and to read comments from some familiar names. I went to Rochedale for 8 years, yes kept down in year one and have fond memories of those years. My father still lives in the house i grew up in, so it is always good to have a look at the school as I drive past when we visit as I left Brisbane 20 years ago. It was a great not to have to wear shoes to school something my own kids can not believe use to happen. Glad to hear the school is doing well.

1981

what a trip to memory lane, had some great years there, playing houses under the pine trees , near the demantables had Mr brasha (grade 5 i think) poor guy to put up with me i was the one always sitting outside the classroom near the school bags, soaking up the sun while everyone was hard at work, i think he just gave up sending me to the office, remember the playground fenced off from the bush, right down in the corner far down in the bush there was a type of fort in a tree and the door use to open and close with the wind, we thought something awfull lived in there and use to scare everyone, hello to mr klupp another one of my teachers didn't give him a hard time he was always so nice and always chewing on peppermint lollies,, yes i too remember standing to attention to 'God Save the Queen' in the searing hot sun,the little shop across the road that use to sell The Muppet sticker books with chewing that we all use to swap, and see who had the most stickers, elastics was a great game so was chasing the boys at lunch time.

1980

I remember Rochedale State School fondly. I remember playing cubbies underneath the huge pine trees, handstands on the oval and elastics and knuckles. My fondest memories are of grade 6 and 7 with Mr Belous! We had a big double room and set up different areas of the room for different subjects. It was 'just like high school'. I now live in Melbourne but when I come to visit my parents, I drive past and wish I lived nearby so I could send my 9 year old son.
Sonya Balshaw (Tumata)

I SPENT MY WHOLE PRIMARY SCHOOL LIFE FROM GRADE 1 TO GRADE

 Kelly Hatherly

1979

I recall having to go to the small brick building near the oval to watch films projected onto the wall, no airconditioning but still very exciting. I also remember playing with the pine needles on the ground at the back of the school, and something that would never happen today was being hit by the deputy mistress for running under the building in morning tea time! How times have changed. I also remember the tyre swings, they are gone now...I loved going to school at Rochedale.

Wow! Great to see so many familiar names- Shona Mackenzie, Gary Epps!Teachers Mr Waldron and Mr Dunning. I remember playing red rover on the oval, learning square dancing on the tennis court and choir in the old activity room! I remember Katy Wall (where are you?) teaching Shona and I how to crochet bikinis. Sadly,my husband (Martin) returned to Rochedale in early March 08 for the funeral of our dearest friend Steve McDonough (Andrea nee Crevola husband) who was killed tragically on his beloved Suzuki bike.

This is the only school that i wish my four children to go but didn't, i remember miss nelson my grade 1,2,3 teacher she used to always get me singing a song called 'brumby jack' in front of all the other kids in my class, I don't know why ? but later in life i play my guitar and recording my own songs. Rochedale state school to me, means a lot to me, the memories of friends and teachers that i probably wont see again, but when i stand at the gates of r.s.s the memories... and tears start taking over thanks rochedale..

I only attended Rochedale SS for three months of Year 6 and then for Year 7. With Mr Waldron as my Year 7 teacher I have memories of lots of sport and athletics and the Year 7 camp to Somerset Dam. The family has moved away from Rochedale now but I still keep up to date with the happenings at the school with my work with the Education Department.

What a great site...certainly brought back fond memories of my childhood. I attended Rochedale from 1965 to 1968, and thereafter was a foundation student of Macgregor State High School. My brother Brad, sister Robyn and myself followed a tradition at Rochedale started by our recently deceased mother Lorna Mackay (nee Voigt) who attended Rochedale SS in the early 1930's. Our teachers included Jim Dunning and Alan Waldron. I noticed some familiar names in the register (including Brad Waldron).. Please do not hesitate to email me if you remember me or my family.

Love to here from anyone who remembers me at school. everyone use to call me spook see so I guess there will be a few girls out there, that would remember my suave charm. especially Freda Willcock. I Enjoyed the reunion last year and can't wait for the next one.

My teachers were Mr Dunning, Mrs Neilsen, Mr McDonald, I remember the old tram down the back of the school where we use to play in and the old wooden horse swing we use to play on, and yes it was a good school. Dennis parkes

It was great to get back to the re-union for the 75th Jubilee. Thank you to all those who put in the effort to let people know. There seemed to be very little current information swapped. Everyone was too busy saying 'remember when'

My sisters Judy and Sue and brother Robert and I attended Rochedale State School during the 1950s and early sixties. We lived next door to the school. Our land is now part of the school. I was taught by Miss Harvey, Jim Dunning and Mr. Turpin among others. Mr Wood was my scholarship teacher. I've lived in Melbourne since 1980.

Went to Mt Gravatt High from there. Now living in South Australia. Great to read so many wonderful things on site.

late 1950s, early 1960's

It has been a long time since I went to Rochedale State school. I used to live on Lamorna Street and walk to school. Life was idealic then. One of my greatest remembrances was the head master (sorry I cannot remember his name) who was always cheerful and whenever anyone knocked on the door he would bellow out "come on in, your as welcome as the flowers of may." He also instilled in me the enjoyment of poetry and to this day I still remember "Oh to be in England now that April's here...." Well it would be nice to know what has happened to some of my old classmates. Believe it or not I still have pictures of some of my class mates....  I now live in North Carolina USA and have lived here for 24 years. But like the song goes "I still call Australia home"

I also remember Miss Harvey and Mr Dunning. We lived in Miles Platting Road opposite where School Road joins. Walked the mile to and from school every day. Remember a lot of good times. Just looking at old school photo and wish I could remember all the names.

Best school in the Universe!! I have wonderful memories of my schooling at Rochedale S.S. from 1948 until 1956. I was taught by the unforgettable Miss Harvey and, would you believe it - Jim Dunning!! The school was small enough in those days to know everyone - and their brothers and sisters. My niece and two nephews attended the school also. I went on to Cavendish Road High and became a Home Science teacher. I now live in Melbourne. I planted one of the trees in the plantation near the back fence. I attended the school Jubilee in 1981.

We moved to Rochedale in 1946 & I am No 311 on the electoral roll. I attended the 75th Anniversary and although the school is a lot larger & has changed considerably over the years I still think that it is a wonderful school.
