When Rochedale State School opened in 1931, it had 27 pupils and one single classroom. It was expected to have more than 40 but this did not eventuate. Many had transferred to the new school from the Eight Miles Plains school. The first Head Teacher was Mr H. Ridgway who was also in charge of the 27 children. The original part of the school is still in use today as the Teachers' Staff Room.
On Sunday, 17 September, 2006, many past pupils, including several from the founding year of 1931, were welcomed back to Rochedale for the 75th Anniversary celebrations. A time capsule from 1988 had been opened earlier and unfortunately much of the contents was damaged. However, some of its contents were on display in the hall. Past Principal, Mr Mike Gordon called the roll of pupils from 1931 to present times, then everyone was invited on a tour of the school to see how it had changed in 75 years. Other activities included a cricket match and tree planting along with the laying of a new time capsule. Here are some photos of the celebrations.
